Join Amelia and Duayne for our first Inside the Site Fence call where they chat to ELEVATE members Matt Sim, Ryan Smith and Brendan Gill about some of the challenges they have tackled in their business, including how reducing their team and the number of projects has had positive outcomes on their profits and stress levels.
Matt, Brendan and Ryan provided valuable insights into how they got started in their businesses, challenges they face, changes they’ve made since joining ELEVATE, and where they are now in their business.
There are some key takeaways related to the turning points for themselves and their business, including:
- Knowing your numbers, applying the right markups and margins to make a profit
- Seeing yourself as a consultant in the pre-construction process and getting PAC trained
- Ensuring your team know their roles, responsibilities and expectations, including trades/subbies
- The importance of systems and process
- Implementing what you are learning – without implementation, nothing changes
- Focusing on the outcomes, not the obstacle

- Adopting the PAC process
- Knowing what it really costs to run the business
- Scheduling, and being consistent with scheduling
- Having a morning routine – encompassing health and wellbeing and time to focus on the business
- You don’t have to do it all yourself.
- The ELEVATE community. Utilise the A Teams and the Facebook community for support, ask questions. You are not alone.
