Getting Your Time Under Control with Amelia + Duayne, Live Life Build
In this session, we share specific ways you can get your own time under control.
- how you’re using your time wisely and intentionally so you are best utilising your skill
- what you can do to have capacity to work ON your business
- how to protect the time you need for the most important things and people in your life.
Some time management experiments we discuss in this call:
- Writing your goals / focus areas down daily or weekly as a reminder (to keep you on track)
- Eating the frog >>> doing the hardest / most disliked tasks first thing in the day so they’re done and you have a sense of accomplishment
- Ideal day structure / ideal week structure … dividing into chunks based on when you best work, need to be on site or in office, or structure like making / managing
- Batching (pulling similar tasks together to avoid task switching and improve productivity)
- Pomodoro technique >>> 45 minute container for tasks, then get up and stretch / do something else for 10 mins, then back to it
- Rooster Chrome Plugin >> https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rooster-for-chrome/pimolnhbniceppehbgmibnbgcnhpkhfh
- Using the 4Ds of tasks >>> The 4 Ds are: Do, Defer (Delay), Delegate, and Delete (Drop). Placing a task or project into one of these categories helps you manage your limited time more effectively and stay focused on what matters most to you.
- If it can be done in less than a minute, do it
- Erik Rood Free Time calculator >>> https://erikrood.com/Posts/free_time_calc.html
- Turn off notifications on your phone and computer … move specific apps off your home screen (average person checks their inbox every 6 minutes)
- Forest app (grows digital trees based on you not touching your phone for a chosen period of time) or put your phone in a different room
- Blocking out ‘work on business’ days so you can do deep work
- Lists of tasks (so you always have something to work on or do as an activity, such as Duayne’s jar with his daughters)
When someone asks …When do you want to do it? Instead of answering “You tell me” use “I’ll check my calendar”
